About Me
Hi, I’m Gina, and I’m happy you’re here.
How I Got Here
I have always been very curious about people’s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been very perceptive to the emotions of others. This curiosity and perceptiveness have been part of the journey that has led me to becoming a counselor. I decided to pursue my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling years after my undergraduate studies in business ended. I knew that counseling was my calling and I have been grateful to be able to be in my position as a therapist.
Focused On The Relationship
Going to therapy takes courage, energy, time, and effort. Opening up to a complete stranger can be intimidating especially if there have been relational wounds in your past. I recognize and understand these fears myself, which is why one of my main goals is to provide a safe and compassionate environment for clients. In the words of John Maxwell, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. My goal is to focus on the relationship and build trust with clients so that they are able to open up to me and allow me to help guide them in their process of healing.
Challenging Your Thoughts
There may be times in counseling that I am more straight-forward and will use gentle confrontation during therapy to help point out thoughts or behaviors that are preventing you from growth. This can be a challenging part about therapy, but it is often one of the most powerful moments as it can lead to great breakthroughs and increase momentum in your healing journey. My goal is to always prioritize the therapeutic relationship while also challenging unhelpful thoughts or belief systems. I also love to laugh and I have a sense of humor, which can be helpful at times throughout therapy when used appropriately.
Professional Counseling For Anxiety, Depression, And More
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (License #0018035) in the state of Colorado and a National Certified Counselor. I graduated from Colorado Christian University with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am also EMDR trained, which is a modality of therapy used specifically for trauma and PTSD. My clinical background includes working with men and women of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, low self-esteem, stress, meaning and purpose, and life transitions. I have counseled those battling homelessness, substance use, and addictions. Additionally, I have experience in inpatient mental health, working with adults and adolescents and treating a wide variety of mental health issues through group work.I have experience using Christian, faith-based interventions in counseling sessions for those interested in faith integration.
A Passion For My Community
I love living and working in Salida and bringing mental health services to our community. Growing up and living in multiple rural towns has created a personal passion for people in smaller communities and the way of life here. My heart is to help more people in rural areas have access to mental health care in order to get the care needed to improve their overall quality of life!
