 FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • To find the right therapist, you may want to see if they offer an introductory, 15-minute consultation call. At High Rockies Counseling, we offer these calls at no cost to you to see if we are a good fit. You should feel that you can talk freely and openly with your therapist and that they can provide a safe space for you to discuss what you’re needing help with.

  • Therapy from a licensed therapist for anxiety, depression, and PTSD includes evidenced based treatments that are studied and proven to work for these types of issues. Depending on the individual, certain types of therapy may work better than others. At our practice, we use a blend of CBT, DBT, EMDR, and several other evidenced based techniques to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

  • If you have an insurance plan that covers mental health, your cost can vary from $0-$125. You can call your insurance to see if it covers mental health sessions and if you have a deductible for mental health counseling. If you do not have insurance, the self-pay fee is $125. Talk to us if you cannot afford the full fee, as there may be other programs available to you or sliding scale spots to help with the cost of therapy.

  • Expect an intake process where the therapist asks questions about your background, symptoms, goals, and any concerns you have. This is also a great time to ask any questions you may have.

  • It is common that when starting therapy, weekly sessions are ideal for the first 4-6 sessions. It all depends on your needs, presenting problems, and practical factors such as time and finances. Some people may go bi-weekly or monthly over time.

  • It’s okay to switch therapists! A good therapeutic relationship is essential for progress, and not every match will feel right.

  • It varies widely. Some people may start to feel better in 4-6 sessions, while others attend for months or years. It depends on your goals and situation.

  • While we are not licensed to prescribe or advise on medication needs, we can help direct you to a provider that can provide medication management and consultation. We are able to work collaboratively with your medication provider to help monitor side effects or changes in symptoms if you are currently taking medication.
